Access Statement for Beckside Cottage Bed and Breakfast

Introduction.

 

Beckside Cotage is located in the Lake District town of Windermere and offers four guest rooms; one family room (sleeps three) with en-suite shower room, a double bedroom with en-suite bathroom with over shower bath, a double room and single room with en-suite shower rooms.

The house is over a hundred years old. Whilst we aim to meet the needs of all our guests there are some period features of the house which might make access difficult for people with limited mobility.

We are located within a 10 minute walk to Windermere town centre, ten to fifteen minutes from Windermere railway station and approximately one mile from Lake Windermere

Pre-Arrival

· We are located within the town of Windermere on Park Road.

· The nearest shops are approximately 300m away.

The nearest bus stop (No 599 of Stagecoach Cumbria) is

300m away, outside Windermere library.  Buses run  approximately every 20 minutes, but stop early evening.

Taxis are usually available at Windermere station but we can book

one for you in advance if required.

We welcome assistance dogs.        

 

 

 

Parking and Arrival

On street parking is available, though this can be busy the holiday periods.

We have a small car park to the rear of the property.  It is approximately a 40 metre walk up a short incline to reach the front of the property.

Access to our property is gained from the tarmac pavement, up a step of 15cm (6inches) through a small garden gate via our slate paved front garden.

This is well lit at night.

Entry step of 15cm (6 inches) at the front door which is 81cm  (32ins) wide. This gives access to the hallway, which is 84cm (33inches).

 

Welcome Area

Guests are welcomed in the hallway, which is level throughout,

Seating is available in the dining room, which leads off the hallway.

The area is well lit with overhead lighting.  Registration forms can be completed in the bedrooms.

Assistance can be given with luggage.

 

Bedrooms

· The family (room 2) and double (room 1) with bath guest rooms are accessed by means of stairs with thirteen 20cm (8ins) steps, followed by a ninety degree turn and a further step. There is a handrail on one side.  The stairway is 81cm (32inches) wide. The doorways of these rooms are 74cm (29in) wide.

· The double (room 4) and single (room 3) rooms with en-suite showers are reached via a further staircase with twelve 20cm (8inches), followed by a single 20cm (8inches) step.  There is a handrail on one side.  The stairway is 81cm (32inches) wide.  The doorways of these rooms are 68cm (27ins) wide.

· Our beds are normally made up with duvets but sheets and

blankets can be provided if preferred. Our standard pillows are

hollowfibre, however alternatives are also available.

Please specify before your arrival if required.

· There are bedside tables or shelves, bedside lamps, a wardrobe,

plus a chest of drawers/dressing table provided in each room.  Rooms 1 and 3 have an easy chair.  All bedrooms are carpeted.  The bathrooms have linoleum or have non-ceramic tiling.

· Flat screen Freeview digital TV/DVD with subtitles available.

 

Bedroom 1 has a double bed, 58cm (23ins) high, with access

from both sides.  The en-suite bathroom has a toilet 43cm (17in) high, a bath 147cm (58in) long and 53cm (21in) wide.  The side is 51cm (20in) high.  A non-slip mat is available and there is a grab rail at the side of the bath.  There is an electric shower over the bath. The en-suite in bedroom 1 is accessed via a 74cm (29ins) wide, step free/level entry doorway from the bedroom.

 

 

Bedroom 2 has a standard double and single bed both 58cm (23ins) high.  The double has access from both sides, the single from one side. 

The en-suite shower room of bedroom 2 is accessed via a 74cm (29ins) wide, step free/level entry doorway from the bedroom.

The toilet is 43cm (17in) high.  The shower cubicle has a 76cm (30in) entry gap and a step of 18cm (7ins). 

 

Bedroom 3 is in the attic space and has restricted headroom.  The ceiling slopes over the bed.  The single bed is 58cm (23ins) high, with access on one side. 

The en-suite shower room of bedroom 3 is accessed via a 58cm (23in) wide, step free/level entry doorway from the bedroom.

The toilet is 43cm (17in) high.  The shower cubicle has a 68cm (27in) entry gap and a step of 20cm (8ins). 

 

Bedroom 4 is in the attic space, with some restricted headroom.  The double bed is 61cm (24in) high, with access on both sides.  Please note this is a small double bedroom.

The en-suite shower room of bedroom 4 is accessed via a 58cm (23in) wide, step free/level entry doorway from the bedroom.

The toilet is 43cm (17in) high.  The shower cubicle has a 68cm (27in) entry gap and a step of 20cm (8ins). 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Public Areas - Halls, Stairs, Landings, Corridors

· All public areas, hall, stairs, and landings are well lit using ceiling lights.

· The hallway is laminate flooring with runner type carpet with non

slip backing.

· There are no steps to the guest breakfast room which leads   off from the hallway.

· The stairs are carpeted.

· The house is fully centrally heated throughout but temperatures

can be adjusted in each room to suit individual requirements.

· There is a fire alarm system with smoke and heat detectors.

 

Dining Room

· The breakfast/dining room is situated off the hallway on the

ground floor and the entrance is 71cm (28ins) wide and step

free/level entry.

· Fully carpeted.

· Large windows allowing plenty of natural light supplemented by

overhead light and table lamps.

· There is seating for 8 people at a 4 separate square tables.

· There is a co-coordinating pine cabinet and buffet table where

guests can help themselves to cereal, fruits, yoghurts, juices

and toast. Assistance can be provided on request.

 

Additional Information

· There are ‘In Case of Fire’ instructions posted on the back of

the guest room doors.

· There is an information folder for each of the bedrooms.

· We also have a selection of menus from local restaurants for

guests’ perusal.

· We can dry clothing on request.

· We are happy to cater for special diets or particular likes or

dislikes. Please advise us before your arrival.

· We can refrigerate prescription medication and additionally

store any perishable prescription food in our fridge for a limited period.
